Chad’s Golf Tournie is Back!

Not sure how many of you out there are still reading this, but I figured I’d do a post anyway just in case. Been doing a bit of traveling around the province trying to do some visiting. Last stop was Clearwater. Joey was feeling so good that he decided to play in a mixed hockey tournament (no contact). Unfortunately, he wasn’t feeling as good 7 minutes into the first game of the tournament when he slipped on the ice and broke his arm. So, back to the hospital we went. Here’s a pic of him and the medical team in the Clearwater ER:

Thanks for your help guys!

Now I know some of you are probably feeling bad for him and maybe I’m being a tad callous, but here are some positives about the situation:

-He got to play hockey (which he hasn’t been able to do in more than a decade).

-His chest is fine.

-Now he can apply for coverage for the good osteoporosis medication. (You have to break a bone to qualify).

Unfortunately, this little development threw a slight kink in his ability to visit with his fellow Clearwaterians. The best visiting he did was with the couch and television in Karley’s basement. Sigh.

In other news, the 4th annual Chad Linsdell memorial golf tournament for Cystic Fibrosis is just around the corner! For those of you who are unaware, this is a tournament we put on in memory of our friend Chad, who also had Cystic Fibrosis and passed away due to complications associated with a long wait for a double lung transplant. Proceeds from the tournament will go to help other people with CF who are waiting for transplant in Toronto and are trying to cover their living expenses.

This year’s tournament will take place in Powell River, BC. For those of you who have never been to the jewel of the Sunshine Coast, you can get here either by air (from Vancouver):

Or, ferry (from Vancouver, or Comox):

http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/mainland/

FYI: You need to take 2 ferries if you’re coming from Vancouver, but you only need to pay for the first one.

Here’s a link to bus information if you’re coming from Vancouver:

www.malaspinacoach.com

Or, if you’re coming from Vancouver Island:

If you’re coming from the Island by bus, you will get off in Courtenay. Then it’s just a quick 5-10 minute cab ride to the ferry in Comox. Sounds a lot more confusing than it actually is.

Now some tournie info: it’s going to be a 9-holer this year at Myrtle Point golf club on June 28th. (Canada Day long weekend, babies!) For golf and dinner, the cost is $75, for dinner alone the cost is $35. As usual, we’ll have a banquet with prizes and auctions. Golf begins with a shotgun start at 4:30; registration starts at 3:00. If you’re coming for dinner alone, it should be served around 6:45.

Keep in mind, we throw quite a party. If you’re interested in registering for the tournament, or want to attend the dinner and banquet, please send us an email at joeywhitford@hotmail.com

Lastly, Joey wanted to ask everyone that if you’re in a position to scour up any prizes for the tournament or auction, it would be most appreciated. Large or small, we’ll take them all. It takes quite a bit of work to run a golf tournament and since Joey’s just getting back on his feet, we can use all of the help that we can get. Thanks a bundle!

Hope you’re all keeping well and if we haven’t managed to connect yet, hope to see you soon!

Comments…Loads and Loads of Comments

Was playing around with the website the other day and made an interesting discovery: comments! Loads and loads of comments. I had several reports from people that they had put up comments in response to my posts, but since it wasn’t integral to the running of the website, I had to let it slide (can only deal with one thing at a time). Well imagine our delight when I stumbled upon 28 pages of comments, many of which were never posted. Added benefit: this also means that Joey is able to look at them as well, which he would have been unable to do if we’d received them at the time.

Here are a couple of salient issues which were raised that we wanted to address:

-Thank you everyone so much for all of the encouragement, support, and love. It is still pretty overwhelming and amazing.

-Mike: Joey’s leg still goes numb at least once a day. Thanks for the tip; I’ll try to talk him into going for a massage.

-#62 from 2007: #66 from 2007 would have loved for you to pop by for a visit while he was in hospital. Kind of funny that we lived in the same building and you were transplanted the same month. Hope things are still going well with you.

-Roy: you were not being censored. I’m just not very computer savvy.

-Jackie: I can only imagine how disturbing it would have been to watch Richard crawling across the floor TRYING to be sexy while mouthing his half of the “love is strange” lyrics. (FYI: Apparently Joey liked to do a suggestive walk while he lip-synched his part). Sadly, I don’t have to try too hard to imagine what Richard trying to be sexy would have looked like…we’ve seen him in action recently.

-Kimberly: For God’s sake! Stop eating so much cheese!

In other news, it looks like it’s PR for the summer. Man it’s good to be back!
